At PACT, we believe that one of the most powerful tools in the fight against child trafficking is education—especially when it comes from peers. When young people educate and support each other, they become the first line of defense against traffickers, creating a network of awareness and protection within their communities.
Why Peer-to-Peer Education Works
Traditional education about trafficking often relies on adults sharing information with young people. While this is important, research shows that students are more likely to absorb and act on messages that come from their peers. Peer-to-peer education builds trust, fosters open conversations, and ensures that critical information reaches students in a way that resonates with them.
By empowering students to detect, defend, and disrupt predators in their own environment, we are equipping a generation of young people with the knowledge and confidence they need to protect themselves and their peers from this terrible crime.
How Our Programs Work
PACT’s peer-to-peer education programs are designed to be engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate. We partner with schools and youth organizations to provide specialized training on:
- Risk factors that make individuals more vulnerable to trafficking.
- Warning signs that indicate someone may be in danger.
- Safe ways to respond if they or someone they know is at risk.
Through role-playing exercises, real-life scenarios, and discussions, students learn practical strategies for identifying trafficking threats and taking action. Our goal is not just to educate but to create an environment where young people feel empowered to protect themselves and others.
Building a Culture of Awareness and Prevention
Our training programs go beyond classroom discussions. Students become the primary advocates and agents of change within their own communities. They learn how to:
- Recognize high-risk situations.
- Report suspicious activity safely and effectively.
- Educate their peers about the risks of trafficking.
By fostering a culture of vigilance and empowerment, we make it much harder for traffickers to operate. When young people are equipped with the right knowledge and tools, they become proactive in safeguarding their schools, neighborhoods, and online spaces.
